 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish to express their sincere condolences to
 4    the family and friends of former State  Representative  Clyde
 5    W.  Robbins  of  rural Fairfield, who passed away on July 20,
 6    2001; and

 7        WHEREAS, Clyde W. Robbins was born in Akron, Ohio on June
 8    7, 1926 to Clancy and Iris Hilliard Robbins; he married Grace
 9    Heller on January 1, 1948; and

10        WHEREAS, Clyde W. Robbins  served  as  a  member  of  the
11    Illinois  House of Representatives from 1979 through 1982; he
12    diligently worked for the farmers and  farm  communities;  he
13    sponsored legislation such as the Grain Elevator Bill and the
14    Soil  Erosion Funding Bill and worked to repeal the sales tax
15    on farm machinery and the inheritance tax; and

16        WHEREAS, Mr. Robbins was also known for his  concern  for
17    others;  he  began  providing  both  healthy and sweet snacks
18    after a particularly long night of session when  one  of  his
19    diabetic  colleagues  became  ill  from not having ample food
20    necessary for his diet; from  that  time  on,  he  stocked  a
21    mini-buffet  in the area around his desk that became known as
22    "Clyde's Deli"; and

23        WHEREAS, He farmed extensively for many years, and  after
24    serving   in  the  House  of  Representatives  he  served  as
25    administrative assistant for the Southern Illinois Region for
26    the Illinois Secretary of State, retiring in 1995; and

27        WHEREAS, He was the county chairman of the  Wayne  County
28    Republican  Party  for  several  years  and he also served as
29    precinct committeeman for Jasper Township; and

30        WHEREAS, Mr. Robbins was also very active in  many  civic
31    organizations in his community; he was a school board member,

 1    taught  Sunday school at North Side Baptist Church, and began
 2    the church's youth basketball program; and

 3        WHEREAS, Clyde W. Robbins leaves to  cherish  his  memory
 4    his wife, Grace; his children, Mrs. Karen (Melvin) Lane, Mrs.
 5    Barbara  (Andrew) Fuchs, Mrs. Nancy (Mike) Rister, Bill (Pam)
 6    Robbins, Mrs. Linda (Rick) States, Mrs.  Lisa  (Paul)  Fearn,
 7    and   Mrs.   Stacy   (Larry)   Smith;   16  grandchildren;  9
 8    great-grandchildren;  his   sister,   Janice   Elliott;   his
 9    sister-in-law,  Marjorie  Robbins; and a number of nieces and
10    nephews; therefore, be it

11        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
12    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13    we  mourn,  along  with  all  who  knew him, the death of our
14    former colleague Clyde W. Robbins; and be it further

15        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
16    presented  to the family of Clyde W. Robbins with our sincere
17    condolences.
