92_HR0683 LRB9216169RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Ervin R. 6 Millsaps was recently installed as the new Pastor at Shiloh 7 Baptist Church in Chicago; and 8 WHEREAS, Ervin R. Millsaps was licensed to preach the 9 Gospel Ministry at his home church, Smith Grove Baptist in 10 Hiddenite, North Carolina on April 23, 1980; he was ordained 11 to the Gospel Ministry by the Yadkin Davie Baptist 12 Association of North Carolina on January 17, 1983; and 13 WHEREAS, Dr. Millsaps served as Pastor of the Old Town 14 Baptist Church in Galex, Virginia from 1982-1984, New Bethal 15 Baptist Church in Morganton, North Carolina from 1984-1988, 16 New Hope Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina from 17 1988-1992, and greater Fellowship Baptist Church in 18 Charlotte, North Carolina from 1992-2001; and 19 WHEREAS, Dr. Millsaps has an extensive theological 20 education; in 1992, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree 21 in Religion and Philosophy from Shaw University in Raleigh, 22 North Carolina; in 1995, he received a Masters of Divinity in 23 Christian Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological 24 Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina; a Wyatt T. Walker 25 Fellow, he completed his post graduate study at United 26 Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and was awarded a 27 Doctor of Ministry degree in 1998; and 28 WHEREAS, Dr. Millsaps recognizes that the greatest 29 challenge to the church is to provide viable and relevant 30 ministry to a constantly changing and evolving community; in 31 response to this challenge, his Multi-Disciplinary Ministry -2- LRB9216169RHrh 1 emphasizes Biblical Literacy, Christian Stewardship and 2 Christian Social Activism; and 3 WHEREAS, Dr. Millsaps has religious affiliations with the 4 Congress of Christian Education, the National Baptist 5 Convention, USA, Inc., and The Greater New Era District 6 Association; under the auspices of the Congress of Christian 7 Education, he is currently developing the Midwest Region 8 Discipleship Cluster; and 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Millsaps was born on November 12, 1961 and 10 is a native of Taylorville, North Carolina; he served his 11 country in the U.S. National Guard from 1979 to 1981; since 12 1982, he has been married to the former Lizzie Towns of 13 Brooklyn, New York and is the proud father of a daughter, 14 Octavia Ruth; therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY- 16 SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 17 congratulate Ervin R. Millsaps on his recent installment as 18 Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois; and be 19 it further 20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 21 presented to Pastor Ervin R. Millsaps as an expression of our 22 esteem.
