1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the Illinois
3 House of Representatives that St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox
4 Church in Chicago is celebrating seventy-five years in the
5 service of the Lord on December 2, 2001; and
6 WHEREAS, St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church is named for
7 St. Andrew, the first-called Apostle, who showed his genuine
8 faith in actions throughout his discipleship; and
9 WHEREAS, St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church was
10 established in 1926 on the corner of Winthrop and Hollywood
11 in Chicago, Illinois; the first service at the Sheridan Road
12 church took place 45 years ago on November 25; and
13 WHEREAS, St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church operates an
14 after school program and catechetical Sunday School and opens
15 its doors for many community programs; in addition, St.
16 Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church works closely with Hollywood
17 House to bring joy and service to the senior citizens of the
18 community; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21 we congratulate St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church on the
22 celebration of its 75th anniversary; may it continue to
23 provide guidance to the community for many years to come; and
24 be it further
25 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
26 presented to the Reverend Sakellarios Michael H. Kontos, Jr.
27 Proistamenos and the Reverend Protopresbyter John G. Kutulas,
28 Proistamenos Emeritus as an expression of our esteem.
