 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives   are   honored   to   recognize  significant
 4    milestones in the lives of the people of this State; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come to  our  attention  that  Mary  Alma
 6    Koerner   of   Lemont,  Illinois  is  celebrating  the  100th
 7    anniversary of her birth; and

 8        WHEREAS, Mary Alma Koerner was born on November 17,  1901
 9    in Ellis, Kansas; she graduated from Kansas University with a
10    teaching degree with a minor in music; and

11        WHEREAS,  Mary  Alma  Koerner  married Anthony Koerner in
12    1920; to this union three sons were  born,  Wesley,  Richard,
13    and   James;   she   is   the   proud  grandmother  of  seven
14    grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and

15        WHEREAS, The Koerners moved to the Chicago area  in  1927
16    where Mary pursued her music career; and

17        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Koerner  worked  for  the  Central States
18    Teamworkers' Union and she taught third and fourth  grade  at
19    Sacred  Heart  Grammar  School;  after  her  retirement  from
20    teaching,   she  began  working  for  the  Palos  Hills  Park
21    District, where she started the PLOWS program; and

22        WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Koerner served as a  member
23    to  many organizations and was instrumental in starting some;
24    she was President of the Council of Catholic Women, President
25    of the Daughters of Isabella, The Altar and  Rosary  Society,
26    and  President  of  the Women for Democratic Action; she also
27    joined several Palos Hills  Clubs  for  Senior  Citizens  and
28    served as President of several organizations; and

29        WHEREAS,    Mrs.   Koerner   served   as   the   Illinois
30    Representative  for  the  3rd   Congressional   District   on

 1    President Reagan's Council for the Aging; therefore, be it

 2        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 3    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 4    we congratulate Mary Alma Koerner  on  the  occasion  of  her
 5    100th  birthday and extend to her our sincere best wishes for
 6    the future; and be it further

 7        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 8    presented  to  Mary  Alma  Koerner  as  an  expression of our
 9    esteem.
