1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the history of businesses in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Colonial Ice
6 Cream, Inc. is celebrating its 100th anniversary of service
7 to ice cream lovers in northern Illinois; and
8 WHEREAS, Colonial Ice Cream is synonymous with the
9 Anderson family, having been founded by Simon Anderson in
10 1901 with the purchase of a St. Charles milk route and
11 expanded into full dairy operations, including the production
12 of ice cream, with the 1910 opening of Anderson Dairy
13 operations at 311 North Fifth Street in St. Charles; and
14 WHEREAS, The Anderson Dairy business continued to grow
15 and prosper, surviving the economic depression of the 1930s
16 and the production challenges of World War II, including
17 sugar rationing and the delivery of milk to schools; and
18 WHEREAS, Colonial Ice Cream, Inc. responded to the
19 post-war prosperity of the 1950s and an increased consumer
20 demand for ice cream novelties by opening the first of its
21 ice cream parlors, drive-ins, and sandwich shops; and
22 WHEREAS, Colonial Ice Cream, Inc. has unfailingly
23 provided quality employment for area citizens, including
24 part-time summer jobs, which offered important initial
25 employment opportunities for many young workers; and
26 WHEREAS, Colonial Ice Cream, Inc. has supported a strong
27 local economy since 1917, investing in downtown St. Charles
28 and other suburban locations through its signature
29 family-style restaurants and cafes; and
30 WHEREAS, Colonial Ice Cream, Inc. enjoys a reputation as

1 an outstanding corporate citizen through its generous
2 involvement in a wide-ranging variety of services benefitting
3 downtown St. Charles and its citizens; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 we congratulate Colonial Ice Cream, Inc. on the celebration
7 of its 100th anniversary of service and contribution to the
8 community with their quality products, courteous service, and
9 generous donations to so many people and organizations; and
10 be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Colonial Ice Cream, Inc. as an expression of our
13 esteem.
