1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestone events in the
4 history of communities in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, The 75th Annual Centralia Halloween Parade
6 convened on October 27, 2001; and
7 WHEREAS, This years parade theme was "Parade Memories: 75
8 Years of Fun" and encompassed a tribute to the Centralia Fire
9 Department in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist
10 attacks on the United States which focused attention on the
11 selfless acts of emergency responders who lost their lives in
12 New York City; and
13 WHEREAS, The parade served as a posthumous tribute to the
14 late Gib Lynch of the Centralia Fire Protection District, who
15 recently passed away and who was involved with the parade
16 committee in the past; and
17 WHEREAS, The parade's tributes also extended to the late
18 Billy J. Shook, a former committee member, and to the late
19 Norma Simmons, whose husband, Al, was also a committee
20 member; and
21 WHEREAS, The citizens of Centralia joined Jackie "Butch"
22 Mathus, who has brought to this town celebration many fine
23 parade entries in the past; and
24 WHEREAS, The fire fighters solicited donations for the
25 New York Fire Fighters fund and AARP sold parade buttons to
26 help pay for the parade; and
27 WHEREAS, The theme for this year's parade, "Parade
28 Memories: 75 Years of Fun" was chosen earlier in the year by
29 Centralia Junior High School pupil Kerri Miller in tribute to
30 the parade's diamond anniversary; grand marshals for this

1 year's parade were Ken Oestreich and Nate Rothschild of the
2 Centralia Area Historical Society; and
3 WHEREAS, Due to the dedicated efforts on the part of the
4 great citizens of Centralia, Illinois, the parade was a huge
5 success and enjoyed by all; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 we congratulate the town of Centralia, Illinois on the
9 celebration of the 75th Annual Centralia Halloween Parade,
10 "Parade Memories: 75 Years of Fun" dedicated to the fallen
11 fire fighters from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks
12 and as a lasting tribute to the citizens of Centralia; and be
13 it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the Mayor of Centralia along with our heartiest
16 thanks.
