1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, The Seidel farm, located north of Sandoval and
6 just east of the rest stop on Route 51 in Marion County, will
7 be the site of a gala celebration on August 12, 2001 in
8 observance of 100 years of Seidel ownership; and
9 WHEREAS, While Sebastian Seidel owned farmland nearby,
10 the present Seidel farm came into the hands of his son John
11 W. and his wife Louisa starting the 100 years of operation;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, John W. remained on the farm through World War I
14 with his wife and children, William M. and Arvilla; and
15 WHEREAS, William M. and his wife Thelma worked and raised
16 their five children, Emma Lou, Jean, Sue, Joe, and Dan on the
17 farm through the depression and through World War II; during
18 the war his eldest son, Richard, served with the United
19 States Army in the Pacific; upon his discharge he returned to
20 the family farm with his wife, Leona, where they raised their
21 children, Dale, Peggy, Patty, Marty, and John; and
22 WHEREAS, After Richard moved his family to Arizona, his
23 brother Dan took over the operation of the family farm; and
24 WHEREAS, The Seidel farm has survived good and bad
25 seasons but thanks to the astuteness of the various heads of
26 the farm it has become a success through scientific
27 advancements in farming; and
28 WHEREAS, An expected 80 descendents of Sebastian Seidel
29 from California, Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, Florida, and
30 Illinois plan to attend the 100th celebration in August;

1 among them are the McIntyre family, the Atherton family, the
2 Bond family, the Niepoetter family, the Stelzriede family,
3 the Elkins family, the Gannon family, the Conder family, the
4 Cole family, the Fouse family, the Deckard family, the Tyler
5 family, the Lordan family, the Pozzie family, the Barnes
6 family, the Talbot family, the Gailey family, the Fischetti
7 family, the Crawford family, and the Seidel family;
8 therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we congratulate the Seidel family on the 100th anniversary of
12 the existence of their family farm; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the Seidel family as an expression of our
15 esteem.
