1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Cordell Reed
6 will be honored by the Friends of Chicago State University on
7 September 6, 2001 for his commitment to the University and
8 its students; and
9 WHEREAS, Cordell Reed, the retired vice president of
10 Commonwealth Edison Company and esteemed member of the
11 Chicago business community, is currently serving as chairman
12 of the Chicago State University Foundation Board; under his
13 leadership and guidance, the University has raised over $5
14 million to support technology enhancements and student
15 scholarships; in addition, he has been instrumental in
16 establishing a strong pre-engineering program at Chicago
17 State University; and
18 WHEREAS, Cordell Reed's efforts and involvements have
19 increased the number of women and minorities who have
20 selected engineering careers; and
21 WHEREAS, Cordell Reed's kindness and generosity has been
22 vital to the success of many of the students at Chicago State
23 University; therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 we congratulate Cordell Reed on being honored by the Friends
27 of Chicago State University for his commitment to the
28 University and its students; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to Cordell Reed as an expression of our esteem.
