92_HR0445 LRB9209171RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of James Von Boeckman, who passed away 5 on June 23, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman served as an Illinois State 7 Representative for the 45th District from 1965 to 1966 and 8 from 1971 to 1981; during his tenure, he served as chairman 9 of the House Motor Vehicles Committee and later as executive 10 chairman of the Illinois Motor Vehicle Laws Commission; and 11 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman was born on January 23, 1923 12 in Pekin, Illinois to Carl and Agnes Sipka Von Boeckman; and 13 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman attended the University of 14 Illinois at Chicago and Massachusetts Institute of Technology 15 in Boston; and 16 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman was a World War II Navy 17 veteran, attaining the rank of fireman 1st class; he was a 18 member of William Schaefer American Legion Post 44 and Pekin 19 AMVETS Post 235; and 20 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman was a member of Pekin 21 Supervisors Club and the Pioneer Club of Corn Products Co.; 22 he served as a night superintendent and supervisor of new 23 construction for Corn Products Co. International for 38 24 years, retiring in 1985; in addition, he served as president, 25 secretary-treasurer, and shop steward for Oil, Chemical and 26 Atomic Workers Local 7662; and 27 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman served as vice president of 28 the Peoria-Tazewell County Industrial Union Council CIO and 29 the Peoria-Tazewell Council Labor Council AFL-CIO, serving as 30 chairman of the COPE Committee for both councils; and -2- LRB9209171RHrh 1 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman recently served on the 2 Tazewell County Board since 1999; he has also served as a 3 member of the County Board from 1959 to 1965, becoming 4 chairman in 1964; and 5 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman also served as Tazewell 6 County deputy sheriff; and 7 WHEREAS, James Von Boeckman was a past member of the 8 Tri-County Planning Commission, the Pekin United Fund, the 9 Pekin Boys Club Board, the Pekin Planning and Zoning 10 Commission, and the board of directors of the Tazewell County 11 American Red Cross, where he was a 20-gallon donor; in 12 addition, he was a member of Eagles Aerie 1869, the Loyal 13 Order of the Moose Lodge 916, the Benevolent and Protective 14 Order of the Elks Lodge 1271, and a member of St. John's 15 Lutheran Church in Pekin, where he served as chairman of the 16 board; and 17 WHEREAS, In 1977, at the annual convention of the 18 Assembly of Government Employees, James Von Boeckman was 19 named one of the nation's top ten state lawmakers; in 20 addition, he received an award in recognition and 21 appreciation of his outstanding legislative service from the 22 Urban Counties Council of Illinois in 1980; and 23 WHEREAS, The passing of James Von Boeckman will be deeply 24 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 60 25 years, Norma; his sons, James (wife, Vicki) and Steven (wife, 26 Jill); his daughters, Barbara (husband, Edward) Huber and 27 Bonnie (husband, Russell) Jarmusz; his sisters, Louise 28 (husband, Don) Ronvich and Carol Johnson; his 2 29 grandchildren; and his 14 great-grandchildren; therefore, be 30 it 31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 32 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that -3- LRB9209171RHrh 1 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of former 2 Illinois State Representative James Von Boeckman of Pekin, 3 Illinois; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 5 presented to the family of James Von Boeckman with our 6 sincere condolences.
