1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, William A. Ward was born in Olney, Illinois on
3 December 31, 1959 to Bob and Shirley Ward, and Julie M.
4 Sullivan was born in South Bend, Indiana on December 18, 1957
5 to Jim and Lois Sullivan; and
6 WHEREAS, Bill and Julie met in 1984 in Springfield,
7 Illinois while he was serving on the issues staff and she was
8 serving on the research staff for House Speaker Michael J.
9 Madigan; and
10 WHEREAS, Bill and Julie hit it off despite the fact that
11 he is a St. Louis Cardinals fan and she is a Chicago Cubs
12 fan; and
13 WHEREAS, Much to Julie's surprise, after a romantic
14 evening in 1985 featuring classic oriental cuisine and a nice
15 bottle of Asti Spumanti at the lovely Mamasan's Restaurant in
16 Springfield, Bill proposed to Julie, and, after much thought
17 and with some apprehension, Julie accepted; and
18 WHEREAS, On May 23, 1986, the Illinois House of
19 Representatives took a break on the day of its Third Reading
20 Deadline to honor the couple with a resolution, and, rumor
21 has it, concluded its business in a timely fashion so that
22 staff and legislators could attended the couples wedding
23 festivities; and
24 WHEREAS, Bill and Julie were married on May 23, 1986 at
25 the Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield, Illinois,
26 surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues; and
27 WHEREAS, In the fifteen years of their marriage, Bill and
28 Julie have shared a deep love and respect for each other;
29 they have been blessed with an abundance of happy times
30 together in pursuing their mutual interests, including a love
31 of sports, travel, their dogs, and spending time with friends

1 and family; and they have enjoyed great success and have
2 earned widespread respect in their lobbying careers;
3 therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 we congratulate Bill and Julie Ward on the celebration of
7 their fifteenth wedding anniversary on May 23, 2001; and be
8 it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Bill and Julie Ward as an expression of our
11 esteem.
