1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestones in the
4 lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Owen C. Wavrinek will celebrate his retirement
6 from the Board of Education in Indian Prairie Community Unit
7 School District 204 this year; and
8 WHEREAS, Owen C. Wavrinek was appointed to fill a vacancy
9 in the Board of Education in Indian Prairie Community Unit
10 School District 204 in 1980; he was elected to the position
11 in 1981; and he served five consecutive terms as a member of
12 the Board; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Wavrinek served as Vice President of the
14 Board from 1983 to 1985 and as Board President from 1985 to
15 1989; he chaired the Board's policy committee for nearly all
16 of his tenure as a Board member; and he oversaw the complete
17 rewrite of a policy manual, which was in excess of 800 pages
18 in length; and
19 WHEREAS, Although Owen C. Wavrinek has no children of his
20 own, he has claimed all of the district's students as his own
21 in making his point that the single most important role that
22 a Board member can play is that of a child advocate; and
23 WHEREAS, Because of his exemplary service for more than
24 two decades and because of his excellent memory, he has
25 earned the title of "Board Historian"; he has made the Indian
26 Prairie School District better for all of the students,
27 staff, parents, and residents of the district; and he has
28 earned the praise and gratitude of the District; and
29 WHEREAS, For recognition of his years of service to the
30 children of Indian Prairie, the Illinois Chapter of the
31 National School Public Relations Association will present Mr.

1 Wavrinek with its award of Merit in the School Board Member
2 category on May 17, 2001; therefore be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 we congratulate Owen C. Wavrinek on his retirement from the
6 Board of Education in Indian Prairie Community Unit School
7 District 204 and wish him well in his future endeavors; and
8 be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Owen C. Wavrinek.
