92_HR0237 LRB9208741RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Brenda Fyfe, a Mater Dei Alumna from 1967, will 6 be inducted into the Hall of Honor on May 5, 2001; and 7 WHEREAS, Brenda Fyfe is the daughter of Edward and 8 Pauline Varel of Bartelso, Illinois; and 9 WHEREAS, Brenda Fyfe completed her bachelor of science 10 degree in 1971 from Quincy University and her master's degree 11 in 1972 from the University of Illinois; she began her career 12 as an early childhood special education teacher for the 13 Cahokia, East St. Louis, and Granite City school districts; 14 she later served as an early childhood education consultant 15 for teachers in ten counties; and 16 WHEREAS, Brenda Fyfe completed her doctorate in education 17 from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1982, 18 and afterwards accepted a position as assistant professor of 19 education at Webster University; presently, she remains at 20 Webster University as a professor of education where she 21 teaches and serves as the director of the Beatrice and David 22 Kornblum Institute for Teaching Experience; and 23 WHEREAS, In 1999, Brenda Fyfe was the recipient of the 24 Webster University Presidential Recognition Award for 25 professional advancement for her help in the establishment of 26 the Beatrice and David Kornblum Institute for Teaching 27 Excellence; and 28 WHEREAS, In addition to her teaching duties at Webster 29 University, Brenda Fyfe holds leadership positions on the 30 boards of several schools, community advisory groups, and 31 State and national organizations that advocate for quality, -2- LRB9208741RHrh 1 accessibility, and affordability of early care and education 2 of young children; and 3 WHEREAS, Brenda Fyfe is supported by her very proud and 4 loving family, including her husband, Terrence Fyfe, her son, 5 Jon Fyfe; her brother, Ed (wife, Millie) Varel, her sister, 6 Mary Kay (husband, Don) Korte; and her many nieces and 7 nephews; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we congratulate Brenda Fyfe on her induction into the Mater 11 Dei Hall of Honor; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to Brenda Fyfe as an expression of our esteem.
