1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, The Board of Governors of the Ida Crown Jewish
6 Academy will present the Board of Governors Award to Dr.
7 Theodore Gross at the annual Dr. Edward A. Crown Scholarship
8 Dinner on March 18, 2001; and
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Theodore Gross is the President of Roosevelt
10 University and a prominent scholar of American Literature;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Gross received his Ph.D. from Columbia
13 University; he spent the first part of his career as a
14 teacher and scholar of American Literature; he served in a
15 variety of administrative posts, including positions at the
16 City College of New York, and as provost and dean of
17 Pennsylvania State University; and
18 WHEREAS, During his career, Dr. Gross has published
19 fourteen books and authored several articles on literature
20 and education in professional journals which include: "The
21 Heroic Ideal in American Literature", "Partners in
22 Education", "How Colleges Can Work With Schools to Improve
23 Teaching and Learning", and "The Literature of American
24 Jews";
25 WHEREAS, Each year, the Ida Crown Jewish Academy pays
26 tribute to individuals who are an integral part of the
27 Academy family; Dr. Gross signifies commitment and leadership
28 in the field of education; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31 we congratulate Dr. Theodore L. Gross on receiving the Board

1 of Governor's Award from the Ida Crown Jewish Academy for his
2 dedication and leadership in the field of education; and be
3 it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Dr. Theodore L. Gross as an expression of our
6 esteem.
