1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor the milestones in the
4 lives of outstanding citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Dennis J. Smith of Bourbonnais, Illinois, will
6 celebrate his 50th birthday on March 19, 2001; and
7 WHEREAS, Dennis J. Smith was born at St. Mary's Hospital
8 in Kankakee, Illinois, on March 19, 1951, the son of Francis
9 W. Smith and Rita C. Smith; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was educated at Our Lady Academy grade
11 school in Mantero, Illinois, Bishop McNamara High School in
12 Kankakee, Illinois, and graduated from the University of
13 Notre Dame; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was a dedicated student athlete at Our
15 Lady Academy and Bishop McNamara High School; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith led the Blue Knights of Our Lady
17 Academy to the championship of the 1965 Bishop McNamara CYO
18 Grade School Basketball tournament over arch rival St.
19 Patrick's School of Kankakee, Illinois; and
20 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith is a proud former member of the
21 International Brotherhood of Laborers' Union, Local 751; and
22 WHEREAS, Upon graduation from the University of Notre
23 Dame in 1973, he began his career with Manteno State Bank,
24 now Homestar Bank in Kankakee County; having served as
25 President of Manteno Bank, he successfully led the Bank
26 through rapid growth and acquisition, and now serves as the
27 Managing Director of HomeStar Investment Services; and
28 WHEREAS, During his professional career of the past 28
29 years, Dennis Smith has given unselfishly of his time and
30 money to numerous non-profit, education and community service

1 organizations in Kankakee County and the State of Illinois
2 including the Manteno Chamber of Commerce, the Manteno Rotary
3 Club, the Kankakee River Valley Seniors Program, the Diocese
4 of Joliet; Riverside Hospital; Kankakee Community College,
5 Bishop McNamara High School, the Knights of Columbus, St.
6 Joseph's Catholic Church in Manteno, the Kankakee County 100
7 Club, St. Martins Catholic Church in Kankakee, and Maternity
8 Catholic Church and School in Bourbonnais; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith serves as a member of the Board of
10 Trustees of Kankakee Community College, the Riverdale
11 Hospital Foundation, and the Catholic Schools Foundation of
12 the Diocese of Joliet; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith also finds time to pursue and follow
14 his passion for golf, Notre Dame football, and the Chicago
15 White Sox; he is a two time champion of the Annual Kankakee
16 Country Club Rollison Golf Tournament and has achieved two
17 hole-in-one golf shots in his lifetime; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith is the only known citizen of the State
19 of Illinois to have ever held an Illinois license plate
20 bearing the name of former legend, Lou Holtz, and is an
21 active member of the current Notre Dame "Dump Davie" fan
22 club; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we congratulate Dennis J. Smith on the occasion of his 50th
26 birthday for his many professional and civic accomplishments;
27 and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to Dennis J. Smith as an expression of our esteem.
