1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Jerry O'Connor was appointed as International
3 Secretary-Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of
4 Electrical Workers (IBEW) office in Washington D.C. on
5 January 29, 2001; and
6 WHEREAS, Jerry O'Connor was initiated into the IBEW Local
7 Union 701 on March 15, 1959; while at Local Union 701, he was
8 active on the Safety, Negotiating, Labor-Management, and
9 Political Committees and was an Apprentice Instructor for ten
10 years with the DuPage County JATC; and
11 WHEREAS, From 1965 to 1978 Jerry O'Connor served as
12 Assistant Business Manager for Local Union 701; from 1978
13 until January 1, 1987 he served as Business Manager-Financial
14 Secretary; on January 1, 1987 he accepted the appointment of
15 International Representative assigned to the IBEW Sixth
16 District staff, and on November 1, 1995 he was appointed the
17 International Vice President of the Sixth District and was
18 elected to the position in 1996; the Sixth District is
19 comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and
20 Wisconsin; there are 146,000 members, 142 local unions, and
21 17 International Representatives; and
22 WHEREAS, Jerry O'Connor serviced Construction, Utility,
23 Manufacturing, and Radio-TV Broadcasting Local Unions
24 throughout the Sixth District while serving as the
25 International Representative; he was an Instructor for
26 Construction and Industrial Organizing and Steward Training
27 and also for Leadership Training; and
28 WHEREAS, Jerry O'Connor has worked hard as a part of the
29 IBEW and deserves our accolades; therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we congratulate Jerry O'Connor on his appointment to the
2 position of International Secretary-Treasurer of the
3 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; and be it
4 further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Jerry O'Connor.
