 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are honored to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dekalb  County
 6    Circuit Judge, John W. Countryman, is retiring this year; and

 7        WHEREAS,  John W. Countryman, the presiding Circuit Judge
 8    in DeKalb County, has served as a Circuit Judge in  the  16th
 9    Judicial  Circuit  in  DeKalb  County for the last ten years;
10    prior to becoming a Circuit Judge he  was  a  member  of  the
11    Illinois  House of Representatives for six years and prior to
12    that he served as  the  Chairman  and  Vice-Chairman  of  the
13    Illinois State Board of Elections for five years; and

14        WHEREAS,  John W. Countryman earned his bachelor's degree
15    from Northern Illinois University in 1967;  he  received  his
16    Juris  Doctorate, with distinction, from Chicago-Kent College
17    of Law in 1970; he was admitted to the Illinois Bar in  1970;
18    and

19        WHEREAS,  John  W.  Countryman  has served in many public
20    positions over the years including Public Defender of  DeKalb
21    County,  Adjunct  Professor  at  Northern Illinois University
22    College of Law, a member of  the  Kishwaukee  YMCA  Board  of
23    Directors,  President  of the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Club,
24    Chairman of the International Council on Governmental  Ethics
25    Laws,  and as President of the DeKalb County Bar Association;
26    and

27        WHEREAS, John W. Countryman has received many honors  and
28    awards  over the years which include the Bud Geigle Award for
29    service to Northern Illinois  University  in  1990,  and  the
30    Northern  Illinois  University  Foundation Humanitarian Award
31    for service to higher education in 1997; and

 1        WHEREAS, John W. Countryman and his wife Cheryl reside in
 2    DeKalb, where they successfully raised their three  children,
 3    Julia, Amy and Jeff; therefore, be it

 4        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 5    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 6    we honor the service  of  DeKalb  County  Circuit  Judge  and
 7    former   member   of   the   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 8    Representatives, John W. Countryman, and wish him well in all
 9    of his future endeavors; and be it further

10        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
11    presented to John W.  Countryman  as  an  expression  of  our
12    esteem.
