1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Mayor Daniel D. Scanlon of Morton Grove,
6 Illinois, was named the VIP Business Person of the Year 2000
7 by the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and
8 WHEREAS, Daniel Scanlon moved to Morton Grove in 1951; he
9 served in the United States Army during World War II, facing
10 combat with the 84th Infantry during the Battle of the Bulge;
11 Mr. Scanlon was an original member of American Legion Post
12 134 in Morton Grove, and continues to serve today; and
13 WHEREAS, Upon his arrival in Morton Grove, Daniel Scanlon
14 became an electrician and joined Local 134, where he has
15 served as a member for over fifty years; he and his family
16 are a part of St. Martha's Parish, where Daniel served as an
17 usher and helps with community events and fund raisers; and
18 WHEREAS, Through experiences with his own children,
19 Daniel Scanlon became a part of the Muscular Dystrophy
20 Association of Illinois; Mr. Scanlon has hosted fund raisers,
21 such as "jail and bails", chili cook-offs, and golf outings
22 to help MDA's cause; and
23 WHEREAS, In 1988 Daniel Scanlon became a Village Trustee
24 in Morton Grove; in 1996 he was appointed Interim Mayor, and
25 was elected Mayor in April of 1997; through his leadership
26 Morton Grove has plans ready for improvements to Waukegan
27 Road and Dempster Street, two major commercial corridors; his
28 plans include improving the economic outlook and overall
29 state of the community in the next fifteen to twenty years;
30 and
31 WHEREAS, Mayor Scanlon has also worked to secure the

1 purchase of the American Legion property, preserving it as a
2 historical building so it can continue to be used for the
3 community; and
4 WHEREAS, Mayor Scanlon also finds time to attend DARE
5 graduations, Chamber of Commerce events, speaking
6 engagements, and other community events; through all his hard
7 work and efforts, he also finds time to spend with his wife,
8 his children, and his grandchildren; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we congratulate Mayor Daniel D. Scanlon on being chosen as
12 the VIP Business Person of the Year 2000 by the Morton Grove
13 Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Mayor Daniel D. Scanlon.
