92_HB5361 LRB9213077NTgc 1 AN ACT in relation to education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing 5 Section 21-5 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/21-5) (from Ch. 122, par. 21-5) 7 Sec. 21-5. High school certificate. 8 (a) A high school certificate shall be valid for 4 years 9 for teaching in grades 6 to 12 inclusive of the common 10 schools. Subject to the provisions of Section 21-1a, it shall 11 be issued to persons who have graduated from a recognized 12 institution of higher learning with a bachelor's degree and 13 with not fewer than 120 semester hours including 16 semester 14 hours in professional education, 5 of which shall be in 15 student teaching under competent and close supervision and 16 with one or more teaching fields. TheseSuchpersons shall 17 be recommended for the high school certificate by a 18 recognized institution as having completed an approved 19 program of preparation which includes the academic and 20 professional courses approved by the State Superintendent of 21 Education in consultation with the State Teacher 22 Certification Board. 23 (b) Beginning February 15, 2000, Initial and Standard 24 Secondary Certificates shall be issued to persons who meet 25 all of the criteria established by the State Board of 26 Education for secondary education. 27 (Source: P.A. 90-548, eff. 1-1-98; 90-811, eff. 1-26-99; 28 91-102, eff. 7-12-99.)
