 1        AN ACT concerning schools.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.   The  Silent  Reflection  Act  is amended by
 5    changing Section 0.01 and adding Section 5 as follows:

 6        (105 ILCS 20/0.01) (from Ch. 122, par. 770)
 7        Sec. 0.01.  Short title.  This Act may be  cited  as  the
 8    Silent Reflection and Student Prayer Act.

11        Sec. 5.  Student prayer. In order that the right of every
12    student to the free exercise of religion is guaranteed within
13    the  public  schools and that each student has the freedom to
14    not be subject to pressure from the State either to engage in
15    or to refrain from religious  observation  on  public  school
16    grounds,  students  in  the  public  schools  may voluntarily
17    engage in individually initiated, non-disruptive prayer that,
18    consistent with the Free Exercise and  Establishment  Clauses
19    of  the  United  States  and  Illinois  Constitutions, is not
20    sponsored, promoted, or endorsed in any manner by the  school
21    or any school employee.
