1 AN ACT concerning public health.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5 Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6 amended by adding Section 2310-240 as follows:
7 (20 ILCS 2310/2310-240 new)
8 Sec. 2310-240. Emergency medical care; non-citizens. The
9 Department must arrange for and, from funds appropriated for
10 that purpose, pay for emergency medical care for those
11 persons who are not citizens or legal residents of the United
12 States and who have insufficient financial resources and
13 insufficient health insurance coverage to obtain emergency
14 medical care for life-threatening medical conditions or
15 injuries. This Section applies only when other forms of
16 government assistance or benefits are unavailable. The
17 Department must adopt any rules necessary to implement the
18 requirements of this Section.
19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20 becoming law.
