 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1553

 2        AMENDMENT  NO.  _______.   Amend  House  Bill   1553   by
 3    replacing the title with the following:
 4        "AN ACT concerning medicine."; and

 5    by  replacing  everything  after the enacting clause with the
 6    following:

 7        "Section 5.  The Department of Public Health  Powers  and
 8    Duties  Law  of  the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
 9    amended by adding Section 2310-372 as follows:

10        (20 ILCS 2310/2310-372 new)
11        Sec.   2310-372.  Ambulatory   surgery   center   cardiac
12    catheterization  laboratories.  For  the  purposes  of   this
13    Section,  "ambulatory  surgery  center"  means  an ambulatory
14    surgery center owned by a hospital that has an approved  open
15    heart  surgery  program.  For  the  purposes of this Section,
16    "inspection standards" means all standards  and  requirements
17    administered  by  the Department under the Hospital Licensing
18    Act and any other hospital inspection  programs  operated  by
19    the  Department.   On  and  after  the effective date of this
20    amendatory Act of the  92nd  General  Assembly,  any  cardiac
21    catheterization   laboratory  located  within  an  ambulatory

 1    surgery center  shall  be  subject  to  the  same  inspection
 2    standards   as   are   applicable  to  a  non-mobile  cardiac
 3    catheterization laboratory located within a hospital  located
 4    in  this  State.   If  a  particular  standard or requirement
 5    applies to a cardiac catherization laboratory located  within
 6    an ambulatory surgery center immediately before the effective
 7    date  of this amendatory Act of the 92nd General Assembly and
 8    is more stringent, however, then the more stringent  standard
 9    or requirement shall remain applicable.

10        Section  99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect upon
11    becoming law."
