 1        AN ACT regarding education.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.   The  School  Code  is  amended  by  changing
 5    Section 14A-9 as follows:

 6        (105 ILCS 5/14A-9) (from Ch. 122, par. 14A-9)
 7        Sec.   14A-9.  Regional   math   and   science  academies
 8    programs.  School districts may enter  into  agreements  with
 9    accredited  public  and  private  universities or colleges to
10    establish  and  operate  regional  mathematics  and   science
11    academies  during  the  summer  months.   The  State Board of
12    Education  shall  provide  technical   assistance   for   the
13    establishment   of  such  academies,  including  any  academy
14    established at Rock Valley College  in  Rockford.   Academies
15    shall, to the extent possible, be funded from existing State,
16    federal  or  private  monies  available  for gifted education
17    programs in mathematics and science.   School  districts  may
18    assess  students  reasonable  fees to participate in programs
19    established pursuant to this Section.
