 1        AN ACT concerning assistance to citizens.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The  Senior  Citizens  and  Disabled  Persons
 5    Property  Tax  Relief  and  Pharmaceutical  Assistance Act is
 6    amended by changing 3.15 as follows:

 7        (320 ILCS 25/3.15) (from Ch. 67 1/2, par. 403.15)
 8        Sec.   3.15.    Covered   Prescription   Drug.   "Covered
 9    prescription drug" means  (1)  any  cardiovascular  agent  or
10    drug;  (2) any insulin or other prescription drug used in the
11    treatment of diabetes, including syringe and needles used  to
12    administer the insulin; (3) any prescription drug used in the
13    treatment of arthritis, (4) beginning on January 1, 2001, any
14    prescription  drug  used  in  the  treatment  of  cancer, (5)
15    beginning on January 1, 2001, any prescription drug  used  in
16    the  treatment  of  Alzheimer's  disease,  (6)  beginning  on
17    January  1, 2001, any prescription drug used in the treatment
18    of Parkinson's disease, (7) beginning on January 1, 2001, any
19    prescription drug used in the treatment of glaucoma, and  (8)
20    beginning  on  January 1, 2001, any prescription drug used in
21    the treatment of lung disease and smoking related  illnesses.
22    The  specific  agents  or  products to be included under such
23    categories shall be listed in a handbook to be prepared   and
24    distributed  by the Department.  The general types of covered
25    prescription drugs shall be indicated by rule. The Department
26    of  Public  Health  shall  promulgate  a  list   of   covered
27    prescription   drugs   under   this  program  that  meet  the
28    definition of a narrow therapeutic index drug as described in
29    subsection (f) of Section 4.
