91_SR0319 LRB9113512KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Don Crabb, Chicago Sun-Times computer columnist, 3 and a nationally known educator, writer, broadcaster, and 4 expert on computers and the Internet, recently passed away; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Donald Crabb was well known due to his Sun-Times 7 column, Saturday night radio program on WGN, his weekly 8 appearances on "Fox Thing in the Morning," and his status as 9 guru-in-residence for the radio programs of Steve Dahl, Spike 10 O'Dell, and the late Bob Collins; and 11 WHEREAS, Don Crabb was associate director of graduate and 12 undergraduate computer science, director of instructional 13 laboratories, and a senior lecturer at the University of 14 Chicago; he originally began his studies on medieval history, 15 but became interested in pursuing a career in computers; and 16 WHEREAS, Don Crabb wrote columns for Digital Chicago, 17 MacWorld, PC magazine, MacTech, and MacToday, as well as many 18 other publications; he was the editor of the "Don Crabb 19 Macintosh Library" for Hayden/Macmillan Books, and was also 20 the author of many other books; and 21 WHEREAS, Don Crabb was a man of broad interests, 22 including Ohio State football, opera, and wine; he loved 23 movies, which was evident by his participation as a student 24 in the University of Chicago film class, taught by film 25 critic and fellow Sun-Times columnist Roger Ebert, for 22 26 years; and 27 WHEREAS, Don Crabb was engaged to Janet Viane of Darien; 28 he was to be stepfather to her children, Matthew, Stephanie, 29 and Jason; he is also survived by his father, Donald Eugene 30 Crabb, his mother, Marilyn Crabb, his sister, Diane McHenry, 31 and his grandfather, Kenneth Crabb; therefore, be it -2- LRB9113512KBkb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 3 his family, friends, colleagues, listeners, and readers, the 4 death of Don Crabb; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to Janet Viane and the family of Don Crabb.
