91_SR0221 LRB9109351CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the recent death of Robert Counsell, a retired educator 4 and president of the Darien Park District; and 5 WHEREAS, Born in Elmhurst, Mr. Counsell was a resident of 6 Darien for more than 40 years; and 7 WHEREAS, A Navy veteran and submariner, he earned a 8 bachelor's degree in education from DePaul University in 9 Chicago and later a master's degree in administrative 10 education from the same school; and 11 WHEREAS, His teaching career began in 1952 at Palisades 12 School District 180 in Burr Ridge; four years later, he moved 13 to Cass School District, where he taught, coached baseball 14 and football, and became principal and superintendent; and 15 WHEREAS, In 1968, he was named assistant superintendent 16 of Carol Stream School District 93, where he stayed for two 17 years; he joined Darien School District 61 and retired as 18 assistant superintendent; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Counsell was a commissioner with the Darien 20 Park District and its acting president for more than 20 21 years; and 22 WHEREAS, He was named Darien Citizen of the Year in 1984 23 and received the Melvin Jones Award from the Darien Lions 24 Club; and 25 WHEREAS, He was a past president of the Darien Lions 26 Club, was co-founder of the Needy Families Committee, taught 27 religious education at Our Lady of Peace Church, and 28 co-founded the Southeast DuPage Elementary School Conference; 29 and 30 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family -2- LRB9109351CBcb 1 and many friends, especially his wife, Mary Ann; his 2 daughters, Mary Ann Lage, Barbara McHugh, and Judith Donohue; 3 his sons, Robert, Jr. and Joseph; his eight grandchildren; 4 his brother, Arthur; and his sister, Martha Ann Rippy; 5 therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 8 and regret the death of Robert Counsell and extend our 9 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it 10 further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to his widow, Mary Ann Counsell.
