91_SR0163 LRB9107212CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Lawrence P. Avril of Hinsdale, retired 4 chairman of Liberty Federal Savings and Loan, on Saturday, 5 June 19, 1999; and 6 WHEREAS, Born in Farrell, Pennsylvania, he served in the 7 Navy during World War II; and 8 WHEREAS, He began his banking career in 1950 as an 9 assistant treasurer at First Federal Savings and Loan 10 Association of Chicago; in 1957, he joined Hinsdale Federal 11 Savings and Loan, which later became Liberty Federal Savings 12 and Loan, as a controller; he held the positions of 13 treasurer, assistant secretary, vice president, senior vice 14 president, and executive vice president before being named 15 president and chief executive officer in 1972; he retired in 16 1990; and 17 WHEREAS, He was a member of several banking 18 organizations, including the Federal Savings and Loan Council 19 of Illinois, the Illinois Savings and Loan League, and the 20 United States Savings and Loan League; and 21 WHEREAS, He was director of the Robert Crown Health 22 Center, a board member of the DuPage Easter Seals Treatment 23 Center, director and treasurer of the Hinsdale Chamber of 24 Commerce, and a member of the Union Church Endowment Fund 25 Committee; and 26 WHEREAS, He was affiliated with the Hinsdale Humane 27 Society, the Masons, the Greater Hinsdale Area Community 28 Chest, the Rotary Club, the Hinsdale Golf Club, and the 29 Executives Breakfast Club of Oak Brook; and 30 WHEREAS, He played a major role in the renovation of the 31 Brush Hill Depot mall in the Hinsdale Burlington Northern -2- LRB9107212CBcb 1 Railroad commuter station; and 2 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 3 and friends, especially his wife, Helen; his sons, Gary and 4 Paul; his sister, Irma Ferry; his brother, Frederick; and 5 five grandchildren; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 8 and regret the death of Lawrence P. Avril and extend our 9 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it 10 further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to his widow, Helen Avril.
