 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives offer our sincere congratulations to the 2000
 4    York Community High School Girls Cross Country Team and Coach
 5    Larry Bassett on their first State Championship title; and

 6        WHEREAS,   the   Lady   Dukes   won  the  Class  AA  Team
 7    Championship with 82 points, capping   an  undefeated  season
 8    with  the  aid of two All-State runners, Kara Henry and Maria
 9    Cicero, who won the Class AA individual title; and

10        WHEREAS, Coach Larry Bassett in his 21st  year,  has  led
11    the Lady Dukes to the State Finals 17 times, a Class AA Girls
12    State   record,  earning  11  consecutive  top  10  finishes,
13    including a second place showing in 1999; and

14        WHEREAS, Team members Maria Cicero, Kara  Henry,  Allison
15    Billhardt, Kelly Forst, Kelly O'Neil, Shannon Tucker, Hillary
16    Palumbo,   Erin  Fitzgerald,  Jamie  Virzi,  Justine  Parker,
17    Vanessa  Pfafflin,  Lauren  Dick,  Emily   Jones,   Christine
18    Kotarba,    and    Christina   LeDonne,   have   demonstrated
19    extraordinary determination and commitment in their quest  to
20    be the best runners in the State; and

21        WHEREAS,  we  recognize  the  hard work and dedication of
22    Coach Larry Bassett and Assistant Coaches Wendy Ihms and Lisa
23    Simon, to continue the winning tradition at York; and

24        WHEREAS, the Lady Dukes, who were  ranked  Number  1  all
25    season,  worked  together  as a team to achieve their goal as
26    State Champions; and

27        WHEREAS, we recognize that this victory is also shared by
28    families, friends, the  Elmhurst  community  and  the  entire
29    student   body  of  York  Community  High  School,  who  have
30    supported the team all season; therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we do hereby offer our congratulations to Coach Larry Bassett
 4    and the Lady Dukes for making school history by winning their
 5    first State Championship Class AA title in Peoria on November
 6    4, 2000; and be it further

 7        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 8    presented  to  Coach Larry Bassett, the Assistant Coaches and
 9    Team Members.
