91_HR0899 LRB9115038KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Honorable Patricio Martinez Garcia was elected 3 the 112th Governor of Chihuahua, Mexico in 1998; and 4 WHEREAS, Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia was previously 5 elected Mayor of Chihuahua City, serving from 1992 to 1995, 6 and as Congressman in 1997; and 7 WHEREAS, Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia is the former 8 President of the Chamber of Commerce in his native city of 9 Chihuahua; and 10 WHEREAS, Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia is currently 11 visiting the State of Illinois to promote trade, educational, 12 and cultural relations between the State of Chihuahua and 13 Illinois; and 14 WHEREAS, Current trade between Chihuahua and Illinois 15 includes imports and exports of raw materials and finished 16 products from the electronic, telecommunications, industrial, 17 recreational, agricultural, and nutritional food sectors; and 18 WHEREAS, Twenty-eight Illinois companies currently have 19 subsidiaries in the State of Chihuahua; and 20 WHEREAS, In June of 1999 Governor Patricio Martinez 21 Garcia received fifteen students from InterAmerican Magnet 22 School of Chicago in Mexico; the students spent two weeks 23 improving their Spanish skills and learning about the culture 24 of northern Mexico by staying in the homes of Chihuahuan 25 children; and 26 WHEREAS, Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia holds a 27 Bachelors degree in accounting and management from the 28 Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey; 29 and 30 WHEREAS, Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia founded a -2- LRB9115038KBkb 1 trust fund for the reconstruction of zones damaged by a major 2 storm in 1990; and 3 WHEREAS, Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia is a prolific 4 promoter of economic development, tourism, agriculture, 5 farming, and the Maquiladora industry; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 7 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 8 we welcome Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia to the State of 9 Illinois and look forward to continued good relations with 10 him and the people of Chihuahua; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia.
