1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald Chapman, Superintendent of Palatine
3 Township High School District 211, has been named the
4 National Superintendent of the Year by the American
5 Association of School Administrators and the Servicemaster
6 Company; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald Chapman is currently serving his 10th
8 year as Superintendent in the State of Illinois' largest high
9 school district; the five high schools he has administrative
10 responsibility for are James B. Conant, William Fremd,
11 Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Schaumburg; the five schools
12 have a combined enrollment of more than 12,000 students; and
13 WHEREAS, All five schools have been recognized as Blue
14 Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of
15 Education; three of the schools were named among the "Top 99"
16 schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report
17 magazine; Expansion Management named the District the
18 nation's best high school district; and
19 WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald Chapman joined District 211 in 1965,
20 serving as a mathematics teacher at Fremd High School; in
21 1973 he was named associate principal at Hoffman Estates High
22 School, and one year later was promoted to assistant
23 superintendent; in 1990 Dr. Gerald Chapman was named
24 Superintendent of District 211; and
25 WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald Chapman has been honored by the
26 Illinois State Board of Education, receiving the "Those Who
27 Excel" award in 1988 and 1998; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we congratulate Dr. Gerald Chapman on being named the
31 National Superintendent of the Year; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Dr. Gerald Chapman, along with our sincere
3 regards.
