1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Mercedes Campbell of
4 Centralia, Illinois, on 60 years of volunteer service to her
5 church, St. Mary's Catholic Church of Centralia; and
6 WHEREAS, Mercedes Campbell is 82 years old and has worked
7 with St. Mary's for 60 years; she has worked as the church
8 secretary, a bookkeeper, and record keeper for the church;
9 she answers the telephone, the door, and works on the church
10 bulletin; she is at the church weekdays from 9 to 4, where
11 she keeps faithful attendance; and
12 WHEREAS, Mercedes Campbell worked for Dr. Alden
13 Langenfeld, a well-known local dentist, for 25 years; she
14 also worked for other dentists as well; and
15 WHEREAS, Mercedes Campbell has previously been named
16 Distinguished Person in the Parish and received her own
17 parking space as part of that honor; on her 75th birthday a
18 special Mass was given by Reverend Gerald Miriani, and
19 several of her former colleagues were present to honor her;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, In addition to her daily work, Mercedes Campbell
22 has been active as an Eucharistic minister at the church,
23 helping to serve Communion and deliver the bread and wine to
24 the church shut-ins; she also was active for 17 years as a
25 member and former treasurer of the Pink Ladies volunteer
26 group at St. Mary's Hospital; and
27 WHEREAS, After the new year, Mercedes Campbell will
28 decide on her retirement plans; but for now, she is a
29 faithful worker and one that the church does not want to
30 lose; therefore, be it
31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2 we congratulate Mercedes Campbell for a job well done; may
3 she continue to serve her church in the future as faithfully
4 as she has in the past; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Mercedes Campbell, along with our sincere
7 regards.
