91_HR0424 LRB9108569KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives 4 of citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Kenneth C. Carpenter of Salem, Illinois, is the 6 recipient of the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award; Mr. 7 Carpenter is known in his community by his concern for 8 others, and his willingness to do anything to the betterment 9 of Salem, Illinois, and Marion County; and 10 WHEREAS, Kenneth Carpenter has shown his caring with the 11 senior citizens and handicapped of Salem, through volunteer 12 work and monetary support; with the help of his men he helped 13 restore the Civil War Chapel in Elmwood Cemetery in 14 Centralia, Illinois; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Carpenter purchased and renovated a school 16 in Centralia and one in Salem and converted them into 17 apartments, leaving the outside of the buildings the same, so 18 they could continue to reflect their history; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Carpenter is most noted for his work on the 20 construction of the Marion County Veterans Memorial, located 21 in Eastlawn Cemetery in Salem; together with his fellow 22 construction workers and American Legion members, he prepared 23 the site and continues to maintain it to this day; and 24 WHEREAS, The people of the City of Salem, Marion County, 25 and the State of Illinois, are proud of Kenneth Carpenter and 26 wish him sincere regards for his future; therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 28 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 29 we congratulate Kenneth C. Carpenter on receiving the Studs 30 Terkel Humanities Service Award; and be it further -2- LRB9108569KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to Kenneth C. Carpenter.
