1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate American Legion Post 480
4 in Steeleville, Illinois, on the occasion of the 80th
5 anniversary of the American Legion; and
6 WHEREAS, On April 18, 1999, the American Legion Post 480
7 in Steeleville will celebrate the American Legion's 80 years
8 of service and dedication to their community; Post 480 was
9 founded in 1921 with Dr. A.C. Wiebusch as the Post Commander;
10 in 1926 they received their federal charter; and
11 WHEREAS, Currently the Post has 471 members; Gary
12 McDonnough is the current Commander, and Post Adjutant is
13 Merle Wente; they have a Women's Auxiliary, and the Son's of
14 the American Legion; and
15 WHEREAS, American Legion Post 480 owns Legion Park,
16 consisting of 13 acres of land open to the public all year
17 long; there are 2 full-size baseball diamonds, a 12 lane
18 bowling alley, and 2 large reception rooms; and
19 WHEREAS, American Legion Post 480 holds the charter for
20 the local Boy Scout troop; the Post gives annual awards to
21 St. Mark's School, Steeleville Grade School, and Steeleville
22 High School; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we congratulate American Legion Post 480 on the 80th
26 anniversary of the American Legion; may they continue to
27 serve their community, as they move into a new century; and
28 be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to American Legion Post 480.
