91_HC0012 LRB9102012JMmbA 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to 6 the electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the 7 general election next occurring at least 6 months after the 8 adoption of this resolution a proposition to amend Sections 2 9 and 7 of Article V of the Illinois Constitution as follows: 10 ARTICLE V 11 THE EXECUTIVE 12 (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2) 13 SECTION 2. TERMS 14 These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall hold 15 office for four years beginning on the second Monday of 16 January after their election and, except in the case of the17Lieutenant Governor,until their successors are qualified. 18 They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and 19 every four years thereafter. 20 (Source: Illinois Constitution.) 21 (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 7) 22 SECTION 7. VACANCIES IN OTHER ELECTIVE OFFICES 23 If the Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary 24 of State, Comptroller or Treasurer fails to qualify or if his 25 office becomes vacant, the Governor shall fill the office by 26 appointment. The appointee shall hold office until the 27 elected officer qualifies or until a successor is elected and 28 qualified as may be provided by law and shall not be subject 29 to removal by the Governor.If the Lieutenant Governor fails30to qualify or if his office becomes vacant, it shall remain31vacant until the end of the term.-2- LRB9102012JMmbA 1 (Source: Illinois Constitution.) 2 SCHEDULE 3 This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being 4 declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois 5 Constitutional Amendment Act.
