1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1237
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend House Bill 1237 by replacing
3 the title with the following:
4 "AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by adding
5 Section 12-821."; and
6 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the
7 following:
8 "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
9 adding Section 12-821 as follows:
10 (625 ILCS 5/12-821 new)
11 Sec. 12-821. Transportation of students; compliance with
12 the Code and federal regulations. A motor vehicle for hire
13 that regularly provides transportation of persons enrolled as
14 students in grade 12 or below to or from a public or private
15 school shall meet or exceed all safety requirements of this
16 Code and all applicable federal safety regulations concerning
17 school bus safety. This shall include a motor vehicle of a
18 municipality or a common carrier authorized to conduct local
19 or interurban transportation of passengers on a regularly
20 scheduled route for a fare if the motor vehicle is engaged in
21 the transportation of students in grade 12 or below to or

1 from a public or private school.
2 It is the duty of the school district to ensure that any
3 bus provider that regularly provides transportation of
4 persons enrolled as students in grade 12 or below to or from
5 a school in that school district shall comply with all of the
6 safety requirements of this Code and all applicable federal
7 safety regulation concerning school bus safety.".
