Provides that a board of fire and police commissioners may require police applicants to have obtained an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree as a prerequisite for employment. Grants an employment preference to persons who have successfully obtained an associate's degree in the field of law enforcement, criminal justice, fire service, or emergency medical services, or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university located in Illinois, and persons who have been awarded a certificate attesting to the successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course and are serving as a law enforcement officer in Illinois. Removes a preference for persons who have completed 2 years of study in fire techniques or 2 years of police cadet training. Effective immediately. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Allows persons who have successfully obtained an associate's degree in certain fields or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (now, in Illinois) an educational preference.
