House Sponsors: KLINGLER. Short description: INC TX-PROP TX CR-SENIORS Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Income Tax Act. Provides that an individual taxpayer who is 65 years of age or older and has an annual household income of $35,000 or less shall be entitled to a tax credit equal to 10% of the real property taxes paid by the taxpayer during the taxable year on the principal residence of the taxpayer (now 5% for everyone). Exempts the credit from the sunset provisions. Effective immediately. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Provides that "household income" has the same meaning as in the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption in the Property Tax Code.
