Senate Sponsors: WALSH,L-WELCH Short description: RADIATION PROTECTION-LICENSE Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Radiation Protection Act of 1990 to require an applicant for a radioactive material license to provide notice of the application to counties and municipalities located within 5 miles of the applicant's facility. Provides that the Department of Nuclear Safety shall, before issuing a license, afford representatives of counties and municipalities located within 5 miles of an applicant's facility a public hearing concerning the potential impacts of an applicant's facility on the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the county or municipality. Allows the Department to raise application fees to cover the costs of conducting the hearings. Effective immediately. FISCAL NOTE (Dept. of Nuclear Safety) Estimated operations costs would total about $2,900. Cost for holding hearings for each of the 50 applications received each year would total about $145,000 each year, which costs would be assessed as additional applicant fees. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes reference to: 420 ILCS 40/12 Adds reference to: 420 ILCS 40/10 Replaces the title and everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Radiation Protection Act of 1990 to provide that notice of an application for a license for an ionizing radiation source at a fixed location facility or to amend the license shall be given by the Department of Nuclear Safety to the municipality where the facility is located or, in the case a facility located in an unincorporated area, to the county where the facility is located and to each municipality located within 1 1/2 miles of the facility.
