Short description: VEH CD-CAR PHONE-HANDS FREE Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that while operating a vehicle, a driver may use only a telephone equipped with an apparatus that allows the driver to talk and listen without holding the telephone or its handset or receiver. FISCAL NOTE (Dept. of Corrections) There will be no fiscal impact on this Department. CORRECTIONAL NOTE No change from DOC fiscal note. FISCAL NOTE (Ill. State Police)) There would be no fiscal impact on the Illinois State Police. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Adds an exemption to the requirement that a driver use a hands free apparatus in order to use a telephone for persons who are hard of hearing, provided that a physician has certified that the person is hard of hearing and the certification is carried in the vehicle at all times.
