LOPEZ-BOLAND-SLONE, GASH, PUGH, GILES AND DAVIS,MONIQUE. 105 ILCS 5/2-3.120 new Amends the School Code. Creates an alternative educational grant program to be administered by the State Board of Education under which grants are provided to applicant school districts to operate alternative educational programs for troubled students who are potential dropouts. Provides for preference in awarding grants to those programs which will be able to assure smaller class sizes and more individual attention for students placed in the program. Requires the State Board of Education to adopt rules governing the procedures for applying for grants and evaluating grant applications. STATE MANDATES FISCAL NOTE (State Board of Education) If two out of five drop-outs over the last five years return to school, estimated costs per unserved drop-out could be as high as $240 million.
