90_SR0229 LRB9012648KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 extend their sincerest sympathies to the family of Robert J. 4 Day, who passed away on July 7, 1998; and 5 WHEREAS, Robert J. Day was a native of Pennsylvania, born 6 on February 19, 1925; he went to work for the United States 7 Gypsum Company in 1950 as a salesman; he held several 8 management positions, and in 1979 became executive vice 9 president and a member of USG's board of directors; from 1981 10 to 1985 he was president and chief operating officer, and 11 then became chairman and chief executive officer; in May of 12 1990 he retired as USG chairman; and 13 WHEREAS, Mr. Day was a former board chairman and director 14 of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; he sat on the boards 15 of Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, the Lyric 16 Opera of Chicago, the Great Books Foundation, United Way, 17 and the Robert Crown Center for Health Education in Hinsdale; 18 Mr. Day recently served on the leadership council of the 19 DuPage Children's Museum; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Day was asked to fill a vacancy on the 21 DuPage County Board by then-Chairman Gayle Franzen; Mr. Day 22 had won nomination to a full term in the recent GOP primary, 23 and was on the ballot for the November election; and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Marcia Udine 25 Day; his daughters, Margot Day Henshaw and Darcy Day Zoells; 26 his son, Douglas; and nine grandchildren; therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 28 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his 29 family and friends, the death of Robert J. Day of Hinsdale, 30 Illinois; may they find comfort and peace in this time of 31 need; and be it further -2- LRB9012648KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the family of Robert J. Day.
