1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate are saddened to learn
3 of the death of Leon Werch of Woodridge on Sunday, May 3,
4 1998; and
5 WHEREAS, Born in Chicago, Mr. Werch moved his family to a
6 rural corner of DuPage County in 1958, where he helped found
7 the Village of Woodridge, of which he became the first mayor;
8 and
9 WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Chicago, Leon
10 Werch was an educator who set up training programs for the
11 U.S. Army and is credited with organizing modern training
12 programs used today by the Internal Revenue Service; he also
13 taught at Chicago City Colleges; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Werch also served as a village trustee; he
15 followed his municipal service with elected terms on the
16 board of School District 99; he also served on various
17 elementary school board committees; and
18 WHEREAS, His passing will be felt by his family and
19 friends, especially his daughters, Shifra and Masha;
20 therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
22 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret
23 the death of Mr. Leon Werch and extend our sincere
24 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
26 presented to the family of Mr. Leon Werch.
