90_SR0175 LRB9011826EGfg 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Benjamin Ferreira Sr. of Joliet; and 4 WHEREAS, Mr. Ferreira was born in Blue Island and came to 5 Joliet in 1951; he was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical 6 Corps and served his Country during the Korean Conflict; and 7 WHEREAS, A highly educated man, he was a graduate of the 8 University of Illinois, received his master's degree in 9 social work from the University of Chicago, and taught at 10 Joliet Junior College; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Ferreira was a highly-respected licensed 12 clinical social worker; his professional career included more 13 than 25 years of service as an employee of the State of 14 Illinois, as well as private practice through Joliet Catholic 15 Charities and the Spanish Center of Joliet; and 16 WHEREAS, A lifelong community activist, Mr. Ferreira was 17 appointed to serve on the Illinois Human Relations Commission 18 by Governor Walker, and he also served on the boards of 19 directors of S.E.R. Jobs for Progress, the Spanish Center of 20 Joliet, and Joliet Senior Services; and 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Ferreira will be deeply missed by his family 22 and friends, especially his wife Lupe Ferreira; his children, 23 Benjamin Ferreira Jr., Stewart Ferreira, and Denise Ryan; his 24 brother, Alfred Ferreira; and his grandson Jason Ferreira; 25 and 26 WHEREAS, Through his love of learning, his dedication to 27 improving the community in which he lived, his concern for 28 the needs of his clients and friends, and his deep and 29 abiding commitment to his family, Mr. Ferreira exemplified 30 the finest achievements to which a man may aspire; and -2- LRB9011826EGfg 1 WHEREAS, His many years of public service and his 2 personal and professional dedication have done much to 3 improve the lives of the people of his community; his passing 4 is a loss to both the people of Joliet and to this State; 5 therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 7 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 8 Benjamin Ferreira Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to 9 his family and friends; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to his family.
