1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the death of Frank Yianas of Decatur, Illinois on
4 February 11, 1997; and
5 WHEREAS, Frank Yianas was born in Merkada, Fthiotidos,
6 Greece on May 27, 1933 to Constantinos and Sofia Yiannousias;
7 Frank Yianas grew up in Greece during the time of the Greek
8 Civil War and World War II before coming to the United States
9 in 1954, where he went to work as a waiter for his uncle,
10 William Rango, in his restaurant, Rango's Place in Decatur;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, Frank Yianas made the decision to stay in the
13 United States and became a United States citizen in May of
14 1960; on January 22, 1967 he married Sofia Droukas in
15 Chicago, and together they settled in Decatur; and
16 WHEREAS, Frank Yianas continued to manage Rango's Place
17 until 1975, when he and his wife bought the business; in 1990
18 the restaurant was moved to a new location and renamed The
19 White House Restaurant; and
20 WHEREAS, Frank Yianas was a member of the Greek Orthodox
21 Church of the Annunciation; Frank Yianas continued to help
22 his family in Greece, and aided in the restoration of his
23 home village's main square; and
24 WHEREAS, Frank Yianas is survived by his wife Sofia;
25 daughter Georgia Yianas Haab and her husband David; his son
26 Dean; his brother-in-law Chris Droukas; and a sister and
27 brother in Greece; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
29 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with the
30 family and community, the death of Frank Yianas of Decatur,
31 Illinois; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Frank Yianas.
