1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Municipal Code by changing
2 Section 11-80-23.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
6 changing Section 11-80-23 as follows:

8 Sec. 11-80-23. The corporate authorities of each
9 municipality may employ and fix the compensation of persons
10 to serve as school crossing guards, on a full-time or
11 part-time basis, by directing traffic and protecting children
12 crossing the streets in going to and from school. The
13 corporate authorities of any municipality may pay such
14 compensation from general corporate funds or may levy,
15 annually, in municipalities having a population of less than
16 500,000 a special tax for that purpose of not to exceed .02%
17 of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of
18 Revenue, of all taxable property in that municipality. Such a
19 tax is in addition to the amount authorized to be levied for
20 general purposes by Section 8-3-1.
