Provides that the Department of Transportation may install signs beside rural State highways to alert motorists of tourist oriented businesses. Effective immediately. LRB9001376PTcw SB798 Enrolled LRB9001376PTcw 1 AN ACT concerning highway signs. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is 5 amended by changing Section 49.30 as follows: 6 (20 ILCS 2705/49.30) (from Ch. 127, par. 49.30) 7 Sec. 49.30. The Department shall, where economically 8 feasible and safe, install along various interstate highways 9 and other freeways with full control of access, except those 10 which are toll highways, signs to alert motorists of the 11 travel-related facilities available in communities served by 12 upcoming interstate exits. The Department may also install, 13 along other rural State highways, signs to alert motorists of 14 the tourist oriented businesses available on intersecting 15 highways and roads under local jurisdiction in rural areas. 16 The Department shall have the authority to sell or lease 17 space on such signs to the owners or operators of the 18 facilities and to promulgate rules and regulations for the 19 leasing or purchasing of space. 20 (Source: P.A. 86-1340.) 21 Section 10. The Highway Advertising Control Act of 1971 22 is amended by changing Section 4.08 as follows: 23 (225 ILCS 440/4.08) (from Ch. 121, par. 504.08) 24 Sec. 4.08. Signs, displays and devices giving specific 25 information in the interest of the traveling public may be 26 erected and maintained by the Department within the 27 right-of-way on the Interstate System and on other freeways 28 with full control of access in areas designated by the United 29 States Secretary of Transportation, pursuant to Title 23, SB798 Enrolled -2- LRB9001376PTcw 1 U.S. Code, Section 131 (f). Signs giving specific information 2 regarding tourist oriented businesses in the interest of the 3 traveling public may also be erected and maintained by the 4 Department within the right-of-way on rural non-interstate 5 and non-freeway State highways. Such signs, displays and 6 devices shall conform to national standards promulgated by 7 the Secretary pursuant to such authority. 8 (Source: P.A. 86-1340.) 9 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 10 becoming law.
