Amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act. Provides
that the Department shall not extend, renew, or renegotiate
an existing contract or let a new contract with a private
entity for the operation of the Illinois Veterans Home at
Anna. Provides that upon the expiration of an existing
contract, the Department shall assume and maintain direct
operation of the Veterans Home. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Department of Veterans Affairs Act by
2 adding Section 2.08.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is
6 amended by adding Section 2.08 as follows:
7 (20 ILCS 2805/2.08 new)
8 Sec. 2.08. Operation of the Illinois Veterans Home at
9 Anna. After the effective date of this amendatory Act of
10 1997, the Department of Veterans Affairs shall not extend,
11 renew, or renegotiate an existing contract or let a new
12 contract with a private entity for the operation of the
13 Illinois Veterans Home at Anna. Upon the expiration date of
14 an existing contract, the Department shall assume and
15 maintain direct operation of the Illinois Veterans Home at
16 Anna.
17 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18 becoming law.
