Amends the Public Utilities Act. Adds a Section caption
and makes stylistic changes to a Section concerning the use
of life-support equipment. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Public Utilities Act by changing
2 Section 8-204.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by
6 changing Section 8-204 as follows:
7 (220 ILCS 5/8-204) (from Ch. 111 2/3, par. 8-204)
8 Sec. 8-204. Life-support equipment registry. Every
9 public utility company that which furnishes electricity to
10 residential customers shall (a) maintain a registry of those
11 individuals who are dependent on an electrically operated
12 respirator, dialysis machine, or any other electrically
13 operated life-support equipment, and (b) identify with a
14 special tag each meter used in conjunction with the provision
15 of electric service to such individuals. The existence of
16 the registry shall be reasonably publicized by the public
17 utility to its residential customers and the general public.
18 It shall be the responsibility, however, of any individual
19 relying on any life-support equipment to notify the public
20 utility providing electrical service of his or her dependency
21 on such life-support equipment.

23 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
24 becoming law.
