1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, State Representative Jay Ackerman, our esteemed
3 colleague from District 89 in Morton, is retiring from the
4 General Assembly after 16 years of distinguished service; and
5 WHEREAS, He has always had the needs and views of his
6 constituents and their family values foremost in his mind in
7 voting for measures affecting his district; and
8 WHEREAS, Jay helped bring about one of the most
9 significant reforms in the history of the Chicago School
10 System; and
11 WHEREAS, He has helped to bring about the most
12 significant welfare reform in the State's history; he backed
13 a crackdown on criminals with his enthusiastic support of the
14 State's truth-in-sentencing law, which requires criminals to
15 serve longer sentences; and
16 WHEREAS, He has consistently voted for measures that
17 helped senior citizens lead a more comfortable and secure
18 life and has fought for preserving the family farm and
19 promoting agriculture throughout the State; and
20 WHEREAS, He also has done considerable work with the
21 Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus; his efforts helped establish
22 Site M State Fish and Wildlife Area in Cass County; he is
23 well known for his interest and support in hunting and
24 wildlife issues; and
25 WHEREAS, At home, he can be proud of his work in
26 completing Interstate 155 from Springfield to Peoria and
27 proud of his part in finally getting the Washington Bypass
28 finished, a project that had been long talked about, but with
29 little visible work done on it; and
30 WHEREAS, Most of all, Jay has distinguished himself among

1 his colleagues for his intellect and his wit and willingness
2 to take on the hard issues; and
3 WHEREAS, He will be greatly missed; we all wish Jay and
4 his wife Joann the best retirement years; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 express our heartiest congratulations and best wishes for the
8 future to Representative Jay Ackerman; and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That we commend him on his service in the
10 Illinois House of Representatives; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to him with our admiration and appreciation.
