1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Thomas
3 Scopelliti has been named by the Highwood Chamber of Commerce
4 to receive the Highwood Humanitarian of the Year Award; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born on August 17, 1952, the son of Tony
6 and Lena Scopelliti; he is a graduate of Saint James
7 Elementary School and Loyola Academy; he earned a bachelor's
8 degree at Northwestern University, a master's degree at
9 DePaul University, and a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, He began his civic involvement as a volunteer at
12 the Highwood Recreation Department where he ran the softball
13 program from 1979 to 1985; in 1981, he was elected Alderman
14 for a four year period; he was appointed Alderman in 1992 to
15 fill a vacant seat and re-elected Alderman in 1993; he
16 resigned as Alderman and served as Special Assistant to the
17 Mayor; and
18 WHEREAS, He was elected to the Board of Directors of the
19 Highwood Chamber of Commerce in 1990 and continues to hold
20 that position; he is a member of the Highwood Historical
21 Society; and
22 WHEREAS, Thomas Scopelliti has been active in many civic
23 improvements in the Highwood area; and
24 WHEREAS, He has been supported throughout his public and
25 private life by his wife, Kathleen, and his son, Michael; and
26 WHEREAS, He has earned the respect of all who have grown
27 to know him; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
30 congratulate Thomas Scopelliti on being the recipient of the

1 Highwood Humanitarian of the Year Award and extend to him our
2 best wishes for the future; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Thomas Scopelliti.
