90_HR0621 LRB9013024CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, It was a one in a million chance that Tim 3 Forneris of Collinsville would catch the record breaking ball 4 hit by Mark McGwire on Tuesday, September 8, 1998; and 5 WHEREAS, The 22-year old Cardinal groundskeeper could 6 actually see himself catch the ball, but couldn't imagine 7 keeping it; "McGwire just lost it, and I brought it home"; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, The decision was made weeks ago to give the ball 10 back to Mark McGwire when the family discussed what would 11 happen if one of them caught it; and 12 WHEREAS, Tim Forneris was awarded a lifetime pass to the 13 Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, for the 14 entire family; and 15 WHEREAS, "It's baseball's ball, and a fitting end to the 16 story"; therefore, be it 17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 18 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 19 congratulate Tim Forneris on catching the record breaking 20 62nd home run ball hit by Mark McGwire and applaud his 21 decision to give the ball back to Mark McGwire; and be it 22 further 23 RESOLVED, That we take this opportunity to wish Tim 24 Forneris good luck in the future; and be it further 25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 26 presented to Tim Forneris as an expression of our esteem.
